Breath. Power. Prayer.

The women and men of the Egungun societies have taken sacred oaths to oversee rituals of caring for The Ancestors who protect the living. Members of these societies have come together as the Council for Global Ancestral Reverence to create an international observance known as the Nine Day Elevation of the Souls ritual.

We invite you to stand together with the Council as we honor the spirits of those we have lost during the time of COVID-19 in the manner of their African ancestors as taught by their elders. We will all pray together each day for 9 days starting on Oct. 31, 2021. His Honor, Awise Agbaye Ogunwande Abimbola, the spokesperson for Ifa throughout the world, will open our prayer ceremonies. The Opening Prayer Event on Oct. 31st will run 12pm - 2pm EDT. The Prayer Events on Nov. 1st - Nov. 8th will run 12pm - 1:30pm EDT.

The Council is led by Iyabeji’ Dr. Cathy Royal, Yeye Luisah Teish, Ohen Nedra T. Williams, Iya Wanda Ravernell-Stewart, Iya Osunkemi Elizabeth Coleman, and Iya Sangoyemi-Osundiwura Barbara Eaton, all of whom are elders from African cultural traditions found around the world.

Please contact The Council at council4GAR@gmail.com with media inquiries or questions about sponsorship.
